俄國同意敘利亞組成過渡政府

一向支持敘利亞總統阿塞德政權的俄羅斯總統普亭，將會在倫敦G8高峰會議上簽署一項聯合聲明，呼籲敘利亞儘快成立一個「過渡政府」，此將使阿塞德政權承受更大的壓力。

G8峰會針對敘利亞的聲明中，呼籲「在雙方互相同意下組成一個過度的統治單位，擁有充分的執行權力。英國首相卡麥隆表示，「很難想像」過渡政府會把阿塞德包括在內。

普亭支持成立「過渡政府」，顯示俄國的立場朝西方國家移動，但彼此間仍有歧見存在。普亭表示，並無證據證明敘利亞政府軍曾使用化學武器，而對反抗軍提供武裝將使敘利亞的情勢更加動盪。

但美國總統歐巴馬與法國總統歐蘭德表示，兩國政府「擁有堅實的證據」，證明敘利亞內戰中曾使用過化學武器。
